Overall, all of this year’s entries were of a very high standard and the jury had a tough task in selecting the winners from a total of 11 nominated entries.

The prize is awarded in three categories: Enterprise, Student and Micro/Nano. This anniversary year, the jury also awarded an honorary prize. The winning student contribution is also awarded a scholarship of SEK 50,000, in addition to diplomas, plaques and honors.

The Swedish Embedded Award has been established to showcase the possibilities of embedded technology – built-in systems, i.e. using electronics to create smarter products and solutions that can create new opportunities and increase growth for Sverige AB.

This year's winner:
Miris AB and Prevas AB won the "Enterprise" category, with the entry Miris Liquid Analyzer,
Robert Bäckström and Isak Ladeborn from Halmstad University won the ”Student” category with their entry Smartbeat. Mikael Schwartz, from Umeå University won the ”Micro/Nano” category with their entry Sound Locator and Heliospectra AB received the Jury's Honorary Award for their entry HELIO L4A.

More about the winners:

Liquid Analyzer – Proper nutrition for premature babies
This year's Enterprise Category award was won by Miris AB and Prevas AB, who developed the first portable instrument for milk analysis. The instrument is used both in healthcare to analyze breast milk and provide premature babies with proper nutrition, and in agriculture to optimize milk production and pay dairy farmers fairly.
In this case, Miris AB is the product owner, while Prevas AB is the development partner. Tony Malmström from Miris AB took the opportunity in his acceptance speech to praise Prevas for their very fast development work.

Smart beat – Train with your phone
The Student Prize (Student Category) was won by Robert Bäckström and Isak Ladeborn from Halmstad University. Their entry, Smartbeat, makes it much easier to use your smartphone for training. The product consists of a smartphone bracelet with heart rate monitoring that connects to the phone via the headset connector. An app on the phone provides voice feedback that tells you whether the training is being performed at the right or wrong intensity.

Sound locator – ”See” sound without hearing
Mikael Schwartz from Umeå University won the Micro/Nano Category award with his Sound Locator. It is an advanced handheld aid for the deaf and hard of hearing. The Sound Locator shows what sounds are in the environment and where they are coming from. The device is small and a graphic display shows the strength, direction and, if desired, also the frequency content of the sounds. In order to receive the Micro/Nano award, the product must contain micro/nanosystem technology, in this case MEMS microphones.

HELIO L4A – Optimize plants with light
This year, an honorary award was also presented. Heliospectra AB was recognized for its contribution HELIO L4A. The contribution is based on research that shows that all plants react differently to light and that it is possible to optimize desirable properties by changing the color spectrum, intensity and lighting times. Helio L4A is an energy-efficient LED-based lighting system where all these parameters can be remotely controlled and programs can be set up depending on the desired properties. In this way, for example, taste and appearance can be changed and waste can be minimized, which is very valuable in industrial cultivation.

(caption)
All the winners, fr v Robert Bäckström, Halmstad University, Mikael Schwartz, Umeå University, Isak Ladeborn Halmstad University, Per Düring and Anthony Gilley, Heliospectra AB, Tony Malmström, Miris AB, Kristoffer Andersson, Prevas AB

Photo: Göte Fagerfjell

Organizers:
The Swedish Embedded Award is organized by the Swedish Electronics Industry Organization, Mälardalen University and the magazine Elektronik i Norden.

The jury is led by Johan Nordin (Recab AB) who is chairman of the Swedish Electronics Association's section for Embedded Technology.

The Swedish Electronics industry association organizes companies that develop, design, manufacture and supply components, products and services within electronics.
The association has approximately 200 member companies.

Board of Directors of the Swedish Electronics Industry Association

Chairwoman Maria Månsson, Prevas AB
Vice Chairman Ove Opseth, CEO of ELFA AB

Board members:
Per-Anders Emilson, CEO of PA Emilson Trading AB.
Bo Holmgren, CEO of Saven Hitech AB
Mikael Joki, CEO, Eskilstuna ElektronikPartner AB
Mikael Roots, Desab Elektronik AB
Jan Linders, CEO Jan Linders Engineering Firm
The association has the following sections:

Construction & Development

Electronics production

Electronic components

Embedded Technology

Production equipment

Test & Measure

Contact:

Lena Norder, 08 508 938 15 email: lena.norder@branschkanliset.se , CEO
Maria Månsson, Prevas, phone: 0708 644 399 email: maria.mansson@prevas.se , Chairman of SE.

Johan Nordin, Recab 0708 449954, Chairman of the Embedded Technology section and heads the jury for the award.
The Swedish Electronics Industry Organization
Klara Norra Kyrkogata 31
Box 22307
104 22 Stockholm
Phone: 08 508 938 00

Websites:
www.embeddedpriset.se
www.embeddedconference.se
svenskelektronik.se

För tionde gången har Swedish Embedded Award delats ut.
