On site to strengthen future training and certification in soft soldering

Svensk Elektronik recently participated in a well-attended industry meeting arranged by FMV (Defense Materiel Administration), where around twenty representatives from training units and industry gathered to discuss how training and certification in soft soldering can be strengthened for the Swedish defense industry.

Sweden has a long tradition of high quality standards in the field – not least thanks to the Air Force’s early insights back in the 1950s and the development of our national defense standards (FSD). These standards have meant that Swedish training in soft soldering and other electrical connections has long been at a level above international standards. But as requirements, technology and the world around us change, there is a clear need to jointly develop a modern, sustainable and future-proof solution that strengthens the Swedish defense and electronics industry – from training and standards to requirements and quality assurance.

Why we at Svensk Elektronik get involved

For us, this work is central. A modern, sustainable and long-term solution for standards, certification and training requires that industry players stick together and work in the same direction.

Here we can contribute by:

  • bring together stakeholders and create forums for collaboration
  • support the development of standards and educational materials
  • contribute to international collaboration – including through our membership in and work with the Global Electronics Association (formerly IPC)

High quality soft soldering is crucial for robust and reliable electronics – especially in defense and other critical systems. We look forward to contributing to modern, sustainable and competitive solutions for the entire industry. Therefore, a modern and simplified system for training and certification is important, and we look forward to contributing to solutions that are sustainable, competitive and strengthen the entire industry.

Next step

FMV has now formally started a working group "Electrical Connection" and Svensk Elektronik will host the meetings held in this forum. The first working group meeting will be held on January 19, 2026 between 09:00-12:00 at Svensk Elektronik at Näringslivets Hus in Stockholm. There will also be the opportunity to participate digitally. Do you want to be part of this group? Register by sending an email to fsd@fmv.se

Together we continue the work of revising current FSD standards, and we look forward to contributing to a stable, modern and competitive solution for the entire industry.
